RESIN BOND POLISHING TOOLING
A very important category in diamond tooling is resin bond polishing pucks or polishing pads
Bond is what glues all diamond particles together.
Resin pucks/pads are used after metal bond tooling to polish floors into higher gloss surface. Compared with metal bond, resin bond is softer and less strong than metal bond, hence the resin bond must include more of the diamond particles to stop it from easily pulling out of the bond.
That is to say, for the same grit number, the resin bond tooling is finer than the metal bond tooling. Therefore, it is common practice to step back one grit size in the transition from a metal bonded tooling grinding to resin bonded tooling polishing.
Resin bond polishing pucks or polishing pads can be categorized to wet polishing pucks/pads and dry polishing pucks/pads.
The biggest difference between them is that dry polishing pads are more heat resistant than wet polishing pads. Dry polishing pads can be used in wet polishing, but wet polishing tool can not be used in dry polishing, otherwise it will get burned very quickly.
