Bond Options (Based on Hardness)

Selecting the correct metal bond is one of the most important factors in achieving fast grinding, consistent performance, and long tool life. The bond refers to the hardness of the metal matrix that holds the diamond particles. Choosing a bond that matches your concrete hardness allows the diamonds to wear evenly and continuously expose fresh cutting edges throughout the grinding process.

As a general rule:

  • Hard concrete requires a softer bond.
  • Soft concrete requires a harder bond.

Using the wrong bond can reduce grinding efficiency, cause the tool to glaze over, or lead to excessive wear and shortened tool life.

To make bond selection simple, we use a color-coded bond system based on both the Mohs Concrete Hardness Scale and concrete compressive strength (PSI). The chart below helps you quickly identify the most suitable bond for your grinding application.

If duties are required, the courier company will contact you directly and assist with the payment and processing.
  3. How to measure concrete floor hardness?
Rebound test for PSI hardnessA rebound test (Schmidt Hammer test) is a quick, non-destructive method to estimate the compressive strength (PSI) and surface hardness of a concrete floor.
Scratch test for Mohs scaleThe Mohs hardness test measures how resistant concrete is to scratching by using tools with known hardness levels. A test pick is dragged across the concrete surface, and the scratch is inspected. The highest-numbered pick that can scratch the surface represents the concrete’s surface hardness. Mohs scale ranges from 1 (soft) to 10 (hard).
